Sandhya Wahi-Gururaj, MD

Sandhya Wahi-Gururaj, MD, MPH, FACP, is a graduate of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Boston University School of Public Health. She completed her internal medicine residency, chief residency, and general internal medicine fellowship at the Boston University Medical Center. A board-certified general internal medicine physician, Dr. Wahi is the first woman to become full professor of internal medicine in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. Her clinical interests are in preventive care and women’s health.
Dr. Wahi has been in medical education for almost 20 years across the continuum. She held multiple roles, including 12 years as the internal medicine residency program director for both the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. Dr. Wahi regularly presents faculty development sessions at the national level and created a program to develop community physicians for which she earned a national award. She has a keen interest in physician professional development, well-being, and mental health in Asian communities.
Dr. Wahi is the first woman to serve as Governor of the Nevada Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP). She is also an ACP Well-being Champion Emeritus and trained coach. Additionally, she is an active board member of the Nevada Physician Wellness Coalition. Dr. Wahi is the recipient of multiple awards including teaching awards, the NV ACP’s Chapter Laureate Award, NV ACP’s Woman Physician of the Year, and she is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Wahi is also consistently recognized for her clinical excellence as a Top Doctor since 2011.
