Rabea Alhosh, MD
Pediatrics
Biography
Parents are often concerned and anxious when they bring their child to see a gastroenterologist, a physician specializing on the digestive system, Dr. Alhosh says he spends a lot of time helping parents understand their child’s diagnosis and treatment options. Communicating with and educating patients is extremely important. In pediatrics, there are two levels of understanding – the parents and the patients. I spend extra time talking to the patient at their particular age level so they understand what’s happening and what they need to do to feel better, and to answer their questions and concerns. Sometimes, a child will say they don’t want to do that or they are afraid, and at that point we talk about their choices, the pros and cons of doing things, and get them on board for what’s best for their health. Parents also need to understand what to do, so they can best help their child when they get home.”

A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, she pioneered the use of pulsating electrostatic field therapy in Nevada for treatment of gastroparesis symptoms in patients. “It’s an electric stimulator on their stomach that causes it to empty better and takes away their nausea,” she says. “I’ve been working on that for quite some time, and we are doing further studies on that.”
